Darling Point, St Mark's Anglican Church
St Mark's Anglican Church is located on the corner of Darling Point Road and Greenoaks Avenue in the eastern suburb of Darling Point. This heritage listed sandstone church was designed by Edmund Blacket in 1852 in the Victorian Romanesque style, based on the 13th century English Gothic style. It was the venue for the fictional wedding in the classic Australian comedy movie Muriel's Wedding.

Photo Cache, yes, Toni Collette played Muriel. It also features Rachel Griffiths who is now in the American series Brothers and Sisters. I hadn't noticed that St Marks was such a popular choice for Anglican churches. We have a lot of Anglican churches in Australia but not many Episcopal.

How's the church attendance in OZ? Many years ago, people told me despite the air con, people don't come.
Ann, I'd say that church attendance in Australia would be much the same as in New Zealand. I would guess they would most likely be down on attendances in the past but would have very little to do with whether the churches had air-conditioning.

This church is absolutely beautiful. I love the color of the sandstone.
That is so like the architecture of the 19th century churches in Port Elizabeth. I gues both our cities have the British heritage.
