Brighton-Le-Sands

This view from Lady Robinsons Beach in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands is dominated by the row of Norfolk Island Pines in Cook Park. The Novotel Hotel on The Grand Parade dominates the skyline in the suburb from other angles. I've featured many photos from around this area but usually looking out towards Botany Bay. This time I'm showing the view back from the bay. If you look closely in the park, on the left, you can see the sculpture of an olympian that I use as my avatar or profile photo.

Interesting to get the other perspective.

Norfolk Island Pines are such an icon of Australian beaches around the country - does anyone know why??

Happy travels!!

Red Nomad Oz, they certainly are around Sydney. I think they might be chosen for the beaches because they are the most resistant to onshore winds compared to other species. Even though you do see some contortion in these ones here, most have very vertical trunks.

You know, I have driven that road hundreds of times over the years, but never once have I walked down the beach ... and it stretches on forever!

Julie, it certainly is a long stretch from Kyeemagh to Brighton-Le-Sands, Monterey, Ramgsgate, Sans Souci, Dolls Point and Sandringham.

Beautiful. I love that you use the sculpture as your avatar, now if I ever see it again, it will remind me of you. Exciting for me to get a visitor from Australia, too! Faythe @GMT

I quite like Brighton-Le-Sands have often eaten fish and chips on the beach wall there and done quite a few work functions at that Novetel. You've caught it at a great angle getting in the iconic statue as well.

Diane, it must have been a long time since you visited Brighton-Le-Sands. I think the hotel has been there for about 20 years now.
