Tempe, Irish pub

The old Riverview Hotel at Tempe is now known as the The Harp Irish Pub and claims to be a traditional Irish Pub. Today is St Patricks Day, which is a day of celebration for people with Irish heritage. It also fits in well with my multicultural Harmony Day theme this week. The Irish have migrated to Australia since the early days of European colonisation and in the 2006 census, 9.1% of Australians reported having Irish heritage.

  1. I'm not going to argue the point, but what is it that makes a "traditional" Irish pub?

    Just wondering. Happy St. Pats!

  2. According to their website it's 'great beer, a warm friendly atmosphere and live music' but that's true of many Aussie pubs too. I think what sets them apart as a genuine Irish venue is that they have an Irish Menu at the bistro, play Irish Music and have Irish dancing, ceilis, trad sessions etc. The pub has its own ceilis band and troupe of set dancers.

  3. I'm guessing there's a party there today!

Happy Lá ’le Pádraig or Lá Fhéile Pádraig!

  5. 40% are Irish, really?! That's a lot.
    This pub sounds like fun.
And I'd like to visit today's Greek Orthodox church too.
Thanks for all these nice posts.

  6. I did a bit more research about this Dina and it seems that figure was not right. According to the 2006 Census website, Australians who reprted Irish heritage was actually 9.1% and I've corrected it now. It just goes to show that you shouldn't trust what you read in the newspaper. Perhaps the writer had a few too many early ales for St Patrick's Day. Thanks for your comments.
