Liverpool, monument and lamp

This unique war memorial that features an old street lamp is located on the corner of Macquarie Street and Memorial Avenue at Liverpool. It commemorates Australia's involvement in the Boer War and a local soldier who died in the conflict at Bloemfontein, South Africa.

  2. Was this a normal (gas) lamp, functioning alongside all the other street lamps? If so, how clever to take something useful and make it into a memorial as well.

  3. No expert on the Boer wars other than it is allegedly the turning point toward the decline of the British empire. The rural farmers kicked their butts and resisted British control.
