Dulwich Hill, Catholic Church

The Church of the Immaculate Conception and St Paul of the Cross is a Catholic church located on New Canterbury Road, in the inner west suburb of Dulwich Hill. The church, built in 1925, was designed by Austin Mackay in the Romanesque Revival style.

  2. Wow--I didn't know that the Romanesque Revival made it all the way to Sydney. This is a nifty church, and now I'll have to look up the architect. Thanks for the post.

  4. Hi Jim -- That's a beautiful Church. (I don't go any more, but you have to admit those old Church buildings were inspiring. They knew what they were doing!). We lived hear Dulwich when we spent three months in London. I suppose people from there settled in this area? Or maybe (probably) I have no idea what I'm talking about (;>). As always, thanks for sharing your beautiful city with us.

Thanks also for your comment on FT-L. I'd love to see that canal neighborhood in Sydney (you said our neighborhood reminded you of an area there.)

  5. Sallie, you're actually quite right. Dulwich Hill was named after the Dulwich in London. The suburb with the canals in Sydney is called Sylvania Waters. You can see my post of this suburb if you click on the label on the right 'Suburbs - Sylvania Waters' or do a search for that suburb in the tool bar at the top of this blog.

  8. hee hee...
They don't build 'em with bricks anymore in earthquake-prone California!
«Louis» likes the fact that you include details such as the architectural style and the time the churches you post were constructed
A Lutheran church in the Victorian village of Ferndale, California is «Louis'» contribution to the meme today.
