Kogarah, workshop
This mechanic's workshop at Kogarah suffered a collapse last Saturday. The excavation work at the front of the building by the power company, following three weeks of rain, resulted in the foundations giving way. It wasn't a particularly remarkable building but the old shopfront with its eyecatching colours made it a landmark on the Princess Highway. There was traffic chaos when the highway had to be shut down so workmen could demolish the shopfont and stabilise the rest of the building.
How scary!

Sallie & Robert, the mechanics got out of the building when it started to collapse and the bloke digging the hole used the excavator to hold the wall back.
ReplyDeleteJulie, those unavoidable, pesky workers got in the way this time. :) It had to happen eventually. Maybe I'm just getting used to the ides of including people.
Bruce, I know most my shots are taken in the daytime. I do go out and explore at night even if I don't always take my camera with me.
Hope his insurance will pay for his lost of custom.

ReplyDeleteSame thing happened in Melbourne a while ago, in that case, a new building excavation next to the collapsed business. And then there was the Lane Cove tunnel. How hard can it be now to work safely and not damage other buildings?
ReplyDeleteAndrew, you'd think they would have learnt from the past and taken more precautions, especially in this case considering it had been practically raining non stop for three weeks.
