Waverton, railway station

Waverton Railway Station has one of the last surviving timber railway entrances, following upgrades of many railway stations around Sydney in recent years. When the North Shore railway line was extended south from St Leonards to Milsons Point in 1893, this station was known as Bay Road. The station was renamed in 1929 when the suburb took its name from the Waverton Estate in this area.

  1. This wooden station looks like it could be from northern New England, like Vermont or New Hampshire.

  2. I love the old timber railway stations... so Australian and so suitable for the hot weather. I am amazed it has lasted in its original materials and shape.

  3. What a lovely little station!
I hope they aren't planning on pulling it down?

  4. Jayne, I don't think there are any plans to pull it down. If they keep maintaining it, it could be around for a long time.

  6. «Louis» hopes they maintain and keep this station. It has character modern stations lack.

«Louis» appreciates your update on the old-fashion butcher shops. It's so good to find one now, and «Louis» likes to support them so they don't become completely extinct.

  13. Isn't this divine. It really is like being in another country yet it's only minutes away from the hub of the city. Wouldn't it be a lovely place to live when you're old. Pruxxx
