The recently refurbished Pitt Street Mall features collections of these odd looking benches in various shapes and sizes. The middle of the night is the only time when you're likely to see the pedestrian mall or benches as empty as this, in the centre of the city.
They are interesting! I like them. I wish DC had more city furniture.
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of classroom furniture/chairs! Interesting! I can imagine it does look quite different with no people around! Great shot as always, Jim!

I agree with Sylvia, they look like classroom chairs. Interesting post and photos. I wish you and yours all the best in 2011.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen those yet, can't say I like them.
ReplyDeleteI like the photo- not the chairs.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like them. First, it is good that they are so liberal with seating opportunities. Second, they are varied, not standard blah. Nice.
ReplyDeleteNice touch to have back and arm rests --- now to add a cup holder!
ReplyDeletethis is so cool!
ReplyDeletethat's pretty cool! looks like a nice place to just hang out and people watch :)

very nice! a great spot to rest tired feet after shopping, or meet up some friends.:p
ReplyDeleteIt looks interesting...but...lots of elderly people like a support at their back when having a little rest. I have noticed that designers are sometimes, actually lots of times, oblivious of practicality. I have noticed this with many "looking good" kitchen gadgets.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, happy New Year!
A very nice place, I like the simple and elegant benches. I'll use them as soon as I can in aBoB.
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective, very Jeffrey Smart.
ReplyDeleteMost interesting Jim -- and thank you for staying up late (or getting up very early) to take the photo -- I'm guessing you do that pretty often as I've wondered before how you manage to get some of your marvelous shots without crowds in the way!
ReplyDeleteI like outdoor shopping malls so much better than the big box indoor ones.
Great composition of lines and shapes with the banks, a very attractive design.
ReplyDeleteInteresting benches indeed! I love how not all have backs on them.
ReplyDeleteI like the benches, especially the ones with backs and arms.

Sallie, I always seek out the quiet times to avoid the crowds in my shots, unless they're vital to the atmosphere of a place. :)
ReplyDeleteis everyone watching tennis?
ReplyDeleteWhat Tennis? Everyone is watching the Cricket. The fifth test of The Ashes is currently being played in Sydney but Australia has already lost the series to England.
ReplyDeleteI'll be seeing these again! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised to see nobody there, was going to inquire then I read it that you took the pic on the middle of the night :D
