Darlinghurst, Taylor Square
This building stands on the corner of Oxford Street and Flinders Street at Taylor Square, in Darlinghurst. In recent years, it has had its painted exterior sandblasted to reveal the original brickwork. Some of the the paint that has seeped into the bricks remains, to give the exterior a rustic look. The tenants in the building include Coco Cubano on the ground floor, a Cuban style café and bar. The billboard on the roof is in a prime position, above one of Sydney's busiest traffic intersections. AussieBum is an Australian underwear and swimwear brand, with a cheeky name, that has become big overseas in recent years and has now expanded into surfwear, sportswear, loungewear and leisurewear.
this is one intersection where the amenity would be so much greater if it were closed to motorised traffic. Having said that though, the chaos would be monumental, closing down the entire Eastern Suburbs.

It is sooo early Sunday morning right now, and so dark, and there are sooo many people talking loudly outside.

Used to walk around this area of the city a lot! Fun and always something happening.

ReplyDeleteNice shot Jim. Julie, everyone would still be on their way home from the Mardi Gras parade last night - which would have passed directly under that billboard (AND closed down the intersection).
ReplyDeleteQuite right, Winsome. This intersection closes for the parade and the billboard pobably commands a hefty premium to advertise on the night of the Mardi Gras when hudreds of people join the parade and thousands of people line the streets to watch.

Do Aussie men have more stunning bums than men elsewhere? I can't see what the billboard is advertising, but I love the idea behind it :)

ReplyDeleteHels, AussieBum is an Australian brand of underwear and swimwear, which is also becoming big overseas now. It's a cheeky name for a brand :) and I think they would have been targeting the fashion conscious gay crowd at the Mardi Gras. I just added something about it to the post.

ReplyDeleteAussie Bum caught my eye. Looked like he was taking his pants off. That would be an eye-catcher anywhere. I have not seen their brand here yet where I live in Ohio but we might be on the list for last– I would guess New York City or San Francisco would get them before Brookville, Ohio were I live.
ReplyDeleteCoco Cubano looks like an interesting place. I love the slogan on their menu - "Fuelling the Revolution". Not sure what revolution they mean but it's a catchy tag.
