Monterey, sea wall

This sea wall or rock groyne is located on Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Monterey. It is one of five sea walls along Lady Robinson Beach that have been built to protect the sandy foreshore.

  2. A very striking photo, Jim. I like the contrast between the dark gray, jagged rocks and the deep blue sea.

  4. Ann, the ones at Kyeemagh are a bit different. These ones are further south running from Brighton-Le-Sands to Sans Souci. They often attract a lot of fishermen too.

  6. I especially like the rocks - the big, chunky angular ones contrasting with the tiny oyster shells. Interesting composition too.

  9. Don't hear that word much, groyne! I always picture Cook when I see Botany Bay.

  10. Would that be what they call a 'groyne' Jim, we have several along the coast too. Nice perspective on this one.

  11. Peter and Grace, I wasn't that familiar with term rock groyne until I was looking for some info on these sea walls which have been at this beach for a while.
