Redfern Park is located the inner city suburb of Redfern. The Redfern Street Gates were installed in 1891 when the park was dedicated to the people of Redfern. The gates are wrought iron and the piers are sandstone. During conservation work in 2008, the paint was removed from the stonework returning them to their original state.
very elegant, I think. Gates are always at their loveliest when they are made from wrought iron and sandstone is Sydney's loveliest stone.
ReplyDeleteThe stonework is so much more beautiful in its natural state with no paint!
ReplyDeleteThese entrance gates look so impressive Jim. Hard to comprehend that they would have been covered in paint. Great capture.
ReplyDeleteHow very lovely. I like the original stonework, too.
ReplyDeleteThe original is usually always the best way it's meant to be. Impressive set of gates Jim.
ReplyDeleteI love these big grand gates.... agree hard to imagine them painted.
ReplyDeleteA nice lead into the park. Amazing how ostentatious they were in their day, in the tiny Victorian town of St.Arnaud there are the most impressive gated leading into their minute Botanical Garden.
ReplyDeleteGlad the pillars have been restored.
Beautiful photo, Jim. Quite formal and balanced, suiting the timeless elegance of the architecture.
ReplyDeletethe original stonework is quite lovely! Nice photo!
