Annandale, St Brendan's Catholic Church

St Brendan's Catholic Church is located along Collins Street in the inner west suburb of Annandale. It was built in 1898 in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style.

  2. Lovely Church photo. The shadows at the side and the blue sky show the warmth of the day. Churches are such a wonderful thing to photograph. They are usually such beautiful places with stained glass, bricks with caved stone accents or details carved into the stone of the building itself. Plus just the fact that it is a Church gives it a special feel, at least for me. Great Job!

  5. I would have picked it for 1930s, thanks Jim for the education on Arts and Crafts.

  6. Lovely old church Jim, it doesn't seem elaborate enough for a Catholic church, they always seem to me to be a little overly ornate.

  7. As Peter wrote, it looks newer than it actually is.

  9. Interesting that You name the architectural style there after the association (in Europe it would go by the general art style - these windows would be an early Gothic style)

  10. Jeannette, yes the Federation style is associated to the Federation of Australia in 1901 but there are twelve variations in the style with many associated to overseas styles of that era.
