Centennial Park, Duck Pond

These boardwalks stand over Duck Pond in Centennial Park, in the eastern suburbs. The 189 hectare park was dedicated in 1888 to celebrate the centenary of European settlement in Australia. This grand park in the Victorian period tradition features formal gardens, ponds, grand avenues, statues, historic buildings and sporting fields.

  1. Lovely shot, Jim.
I wonder what all the projecting bits of concrete are on the boardwalk? Was there more boarding there in the past or are they a whimsy? They look good anyway.

  2. Nick, they are actually weathered timbers protruding from the boardwalk. I believe they've been put there for the birds to rest and sun themselves.

  4. Nice photo but I hope families are careful when they there as I can see some youngster running and ending up in the water!

  5. Great picture Jim, I am wondering about those finger like projections of concrete are. Any clue? Ok, now I am reading Jim's message and see his answer. Still an interesting picture and something to talk about.
