  2. Looks like another one of those outdoor spots with a roof that nobody uses.

  3. Nice capture, Jim! A folly is the last thing I would have expected to see n a cemetery, but on reflection, many of the grandiose graves and memorials are flights of folly!

  5. Terrific capture as always, Jim! Great architecture -- different for a cemetery, but beautiful! And, of course, your BLUE skies! Have a great week!

  6. Not exactly a shady spot to rest, but it does take your mind off the seriousness of the place for a moment.

  7. I know this folly and West Chapel well, as it was where we had the service for my father in May 2011. It does serve to take the bereaved out of themselves and into another space, to some extent. It is not meant in any way to be a shelter, but purely eye-candy.

Thanks for another contribution to Taphophile Tragics, Jim. I appreciate the post.

  11. Ann, I think there was some sort of memorial in the middle of it but I'm not sure what it was.

  12. It does seem strange to have a folly at a crematorium, is it a metaphor for human existence.
I agree with other comments that it would take your mind off bereavement even if only for a moment.

  13. Interesting structure. I haven't heard the word folly in the 'decorative building' sense in a long time.

  14. The juxtaposition of the words "folly" and "crematorium" makes for some interesting ideas, Jim, but a beautiful photo. You have a very good eye, and I always enjoy seeing your posts.
