Ultimo, Aspire

Aspire” is a permanent artwork created by Warren Langley in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. The glowing golden forest of trees illuminates an ugly site beneath the Western Distributor freeway flyovers, near the corner of Bulwarra Road and Fig Street.

  1. Interesting image! I first thought they were antlers, but they are obviously not. :)

  3. I remember when they 'cut' this road through Ultimo and Pyrmont. It is so ugly but this is a good attempt to make it a bit better.

  5. They only for Aesthetic purpose? Are they strong and don't invite vandals?

  6. Emille, I still think it's an ugly site but it is an interesting feature.

Ann, they do provide lighting in an area that might otherwise attract undesirables. They are made of strong plastic and so far have not been vandalised.

  8. Great post and nice idea to brighten up an ugly urban site. Even better that it is going to be there permanently

  11. I never think of those flyovers as ugly, more like ribbons of the city. Have not seen these "trees" the effect is very dramatic.
