Botanic Gardens, Tarpeian Way

This view of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House is from the Royal Botanic Gardens, beside Tarpeian Way. The Tarpeian Way is the pathway that runs along the northern edge of the steep cliff known as the Tarpeian Wall, at the edge of the Botanic Gardens. When the rock at Bennelong Point was cut away to build the road that now leads to the Opera House, the wall and the path were named after the Tarpeian Rock which overlooks the Roman Forum.

  13. Mark, the Tarpeian Way is the pathway that runs along the edge of the steep cliff at the edge of the Botanic Gardens. It was named after the Tarpeian Rock overlooking the Roman Forum, when the rock at Bennelong Point was cut away to build the road that leads to the Opera House. I'll add this to the post.

  14. Awesome shot for the day, Jim! It is different from the view we see mostly in the states. I think I actually like this one better. Superb composition! Hope your weekend is going well!

  15. The Opera House and the Harbour Bridge - this is what this US (Connecticut) resident knows as icons of the confederation. The graceful shape as the building, the massive and tall steel span. Both are wonderful shapes of different eras, and both iconic...

  28. How Australian is that? Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and a gum tree, as well as brilliant skies and seas as a bonus!

  29. It is another beautiful view. I am envious of the openness of this area which affords so many different angles of both the Opera House and the SHB.
