Gateway

Gateway is a 50 storey skyscraper located at One Macquarie Place at Circular Quay. It is bounded by Alfred Street, Pitt Street and Reiby Place. This office building was completed in 1989, with its retail space and a food court on the ground floor refurbished in 2009. The nearby AMP Tower and the blue sky above Sydney Harbour are seen reflected on the two halves of the facade.

  1. Jim it is a fantastic shot but I have always disliked this building.

  2. Mark, I agree. It's not one of my favourites either. I think it's quite obtrusive in this location.

  3. At least it is reflective. It does seem out of scale to its neighbors.

  5. Great pic, and I remember when the AMP building was the tallest...

  6. Great shot Jim. It sure dwarfs the lovely building in the bottom left hand corner which, doubtless, was once a major landmark in its own right. Thanks for sharing. Happy weekend.

  7. Valerie, that building is Customs House, which is still a major landmark, even though it is dwarfed by many skyscrapers.

  8. It does indeed make for a great reflection if nothing else! Enjoy your weekend, Jim!

  9. Ann, this building actually only has three sides but the third side has the same reflective glass.

  11. That IS a tower! (ala Winston Churchill on viewing an infant: "That IS a baby". I do like the reflections you caught and, as always, your beautiful blue sky. And I like seeing all the different aspects of your City.

  12. City building reflections are so good! Excellent shot Jim.

  13. It is useful for reflections only. If you and Mark dislike this building because of its obtrusiveness, how are you going to feel about either of the alternatives for Braangaroo, Lend-Lease or Packer?

  14. What a great shot, Jim. The reflected building seems to be melting!

  15. Julie, that planned casino tower at Barangaroo certainly looks hideous.
