Botanic Gardens, Herbarium

The former Maiden's Herbarium was a herbarium and museum in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was built in the Arts and Craft architectural style and opened in 1901. After a new Herbarium was built in 1982, it became an administrative building and is now known as the Anderson Building, named after Chief Botanist and Curator Robert Anderson who unified the Botanic Gardens and Herbarium in 1959 to create the Royal Botanic Gardens. After the opening of the Robert Brown Building in 1982, it is now used for administration and contains the Maiden Theatre, in memory of a previous Botanic Garden's Director, Joseph Henry Maiden.

  3. It's a very sturdy old style building .... very suited as a Herbarium but alas the herbs have moved on to somewhere more new and stylish.

  5. What a neat shot of such an interesting building. I wonder if the blue trim around the windows has a symbolic meaning. Herbarium...very interesting and a new word for me that absolutely makes sense for a place where Herbs are grown. Thanks for sharing on this Blue Monday.
