Lavender Bay, St Francis Xavier Church

St Francis Xavier Church is located along Mackenzie Street, in the north shore suburb of Lavender Bay. This sandstone building was designed by William Wardell in the Gothic architectural style and opened in 1881 as a Catholic school with four classrooms. When a new school was erected on the grounds in 1901 it became a church.

    1. The office tower certainly dominates the skyline now but the bell tower probably once did too.
