Elizabeth Bay, Del Rio

"Del Rio" is a harbourfront apartment block located along Billyard Avenue, in the eastern suburb of Elizabeth Bay. It was designed by J. Spencer Stansfield in 1928 in the Spanish Mission architectural style and is considered to be the instigator for the popularisation of the style in Sydney.

  3. What an interesting new style for Sydney to adopt, especially near the water. I wonder if it was the architect saw the Spanish Mission style while he was abroad or if the building owner requested something new and fresh.

  7. I still remember when the Spanish mission style was all the rage in Melbourne. Your building however, has a lot more style than the amateurish suburban villas

    1. There is red and blue in the coat of arms, located in the middle of the name of the building. The "No Stopping" signs, out the front, are also red.
