Elizabeth Bay, Arthur McElhane Reserve

This little stone bridge and ornamental pond are found in Arthur McElhane Reserve, in the eastern suburb of Elizabeth Bay. It is located opposite the historic Elizabeth Bay House built in 1838 and was originally part of the estate. On this warm winter's day, the park attracted picnickers and even a sunbaker, in the distance.

  7. Elizabeth Bay House must have been a great home but it must have had an even better landscape garden. The Reserve that you showed in the photo still looks excellent today, all these years later.

    1. I guess that's an Australian term for sunbather which I hadn't realised was uniquely Australian until now.

  10. The serenity of this scene is enhanced by the sunbather(s) in the background.

  12. Wow, somebody was meticulous when they built this, it's a perfect bridge. Does the plaque on the bridge commemorate the date it was built?

    1. Wayne, it's actually a sign carved in stone that says "Do Not Feed The Fish". There are still fish in the pond today.
