Randwick, Coach and Horses

The 'Coach and Horses Hotel' is located on the corner of Avoca Street and Alison Road in the eastern suburb of Randwick. It was built in 1856 as a general store and pleasure garden, under the name of “Vauxhall Gardens”. In 1859, the first Randwick to Sydney horse drawn omnibus ran from the hotel.

  1. Good old English name that though the place looks like it should be in the wild west.

  4. Vauxhall Gardens was the name of a wonderful entertainment site for Londoners in the 18th and 19th centuries. What a great name for an early Sydney shop and garden.

    1. It's hard to imagine considering how Randwick is such a built up residential and commercial area so it really is intriguing to me too.
