Bexley, bank

This former bank building is located on the corner of Forest Road and Harrow Road, in the southern suburb of Bexley. This art deco building was a Commonwealth Bank branch but is now used by a firm of solicitors and a printing shop.

  1. A very jazzy, decorated building for a bank which is normally more conservative.

    1. Bill, banks once had a branch in almost every town and suburb across Australia. About twenty years ago they started shutting down all their small branches so that these days only suburbs with larger commercial hubs or regional towns have branches.

  3. I remember when this was a bank as I lived in Arncliffe and I still drive past every week when I see my mum. It has always been a lovely piece of architecture that thankfully has survived.

  4. Although this is very different architecture than our banks, it is still very much a BANK! Lovely

    1. Yes it is art deco. The Commonwealth Bank built a lot of branches in this style.

  7. Oh no, I don't like the new colour scheme. Love Art Deco.

    1. My earliest memories of this building were that it was creams and pale yellow, which looked great. In recent times it was pale blue and then purple which was quite hideous. The greys don't seem too bad in comparison,

  8. Not often that frey tones could be regarded as impressive, but they are on this art deco building. Not sure if they quite complement the style though. An interesting one.

    1. It seems grey tones are in mode at the moment with so many buildings turning various shades of grey across the city.

  10. Looks a bit art deco to me. Like the gray and the way it curves around the corner, Nice perspective for this shot.
