The Rocks, Argyle Bridge, lamp post

The Argyle Bridge, built in 1911, carries Cumberland Street over the Argyle Cut and Argyle Street at The Rocks. These obelisk shaped pylons with original light fittings are on either side of the road at the north and south approaches to the bridge.

    At first glance, those light fixtures on the obelisk seem odd - but when one realizes that they date from 1911, they perfectly reflect the technology of the time.

    hee hee... When «Louis» saw your reference to "the Rocks" in this current series of posts on your blog, his editeur, M. Scélérat, advised him to check and make sure you weren't writing about the rocks in «Louis'» head.

    «Louis» hopes to replace M. Scélérat with a less hostile editeur this New Year...
