Botanic Gardens, Palace Garden Gate

The Palace Garden Gate is a Macquarie Street entrance at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The Garden Palace was a large purpose-built exhibition building constructed to house the Sydney International Exhibition in 1879. It was constructed primarily from timber, which assured its complete destruction when engulfed by fire in 1882. The only remains of the Garden Palace are its carved sandstone gateposts and wrought iron gates.

  6. The pillars are elegant and impressive. So good to see that they at least have been preserved and become a feature of the garden.
