La Perouse, Bare Island, bridge

This bridge links Bare Island to the eastern suburb of La PerouseBare Island is located at the mouth of Botany Bay with the southern suburb of Kurnell seen here in the distance. It features a historic military fort and tunnels built in 1885 to protect Sydney from sea attack when it was feared an invasion from Russia was imminent.

  1. These historic military fort and tunnels were built in 1885 to protect Sydney from sea attack when it was feared an invasion from Russia was imminent! I know it was true, but I always think the idea of Russians sailing 17,000 ks to shell an Australian city was hilarious in the 1880s. Same with Queenscliff's fort in Victoria.

  16. Jim, the green water is not from algae as Nick in Melbourne feared. Here is how it is done. It started in Chicago; Savannah copied Chicago.
