Wolli Creek, Wolli Dancing (Theme Day: Zest)
"Wolli Dancing" is a sculpture located in the middle of a large roundabout at the intersection of Arncliffe Street and Brodie Sparks Drive, in the southern suburb of Wolli Creek. It was designed specifically for this location and created by Australian sculptor Blaze Krstanoski-Blazeski in 2008. Two synonyms for "zest" are "enthusiasm" and "joy" which are words used to describe this artwork on the plaque: Wolli Dancing relates to the Wolli tradition; a place that represents openness, which expresses joy, such as dancing. It captures the sensation and enthusiasm of the performers.
That's a nice idea, Wolli, and a nice sculpture too.

I've never heard of the Wolli tradition, but I like what I read here. And that certainly is a zesty sculpture.

ReplyDeleteI like that sort of sculpture which appears to be cardboard-cutout. That shade of green is great against the apartment block. I only ever think of Wolli Creek as the Botany mud flats.

ReplyDeleteIt is thought that the name Wolli Creek was derived from the creek which was full of reeds that made it look woolly. Over time this pronunciation changed to Wolli.

I've never heard of Wolli Creek but I like what the authorities are doing there. That's a great addition to the flowerbed. I would worry that it would distract me, so I hope it is easy to find a parking space nearby so I could stop and have a good look. It gives a feeling of freedom and happiness, what more could anyone ask?
