The Rocks, post box
This historic post box is located along Playfair Street at The Rocks, near The Rocks Square. These cylindrical cast iron red painted pillar boxes were produced around 1870 by Triggs and Marr. They feature a letter slot on two sides and a finial of a stylised waratah with embossed acanthus leaves on top of the box.

This post box has weathered nature and people rather well. Quite an icon in The Rocks area.

ReplyDeleteYes, it is. There aren't many of these around today but most of them in historic or inner city suburbs are still in use.

ReplyDeleteI wonder how they came up with the design. It seems more efficient than the bulky, boxy ones we have in the U.S.
