Balmain, St Augustine's Catholic Church

St Augustine's Catholic Church is located along Eaton Street, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. The heritage listed redbrick and sandstone church with a prominent tower was designed by Albert Edmund Bates and built in 1908 in the Federation Gothic architectural style. It stands alongside the former church which was built in 1851 in sandstone.

  1. Interesting that the two churches co-exist. I must admit, I like the design/style of the newer one, but prefer the sandstone version.

  2. Gorgeous church and sky. I love seeing old architecture like this. There is one old church in downtown Knoxville I want to capture soon. I'm thinking I will try this fall when the colors are on the trees. Thanks for visiting Curious as a Cathy

  5. It is interesting that the Catholic Church is more elaborate in building materials and in architectural design than most of the Protestant Churches you have shown, even though they come from the same era-ish.

  9. I love the style of the church, it has a very imposing frontage. I wonder if the former church is still serving a purpose. Great to see it is still standing.
