Chippendale, Institute Cervantes

The Institute Cervantes building is located along City Road, in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. This heritage listed building was formerly known as Winston House and was used as a warehouse for the nearby Grace Brothers department store. It was built around 1913 in the Federation Freestyle architectural style. The Instituto Cervantes is a non-profit organisation founded by the Government of Spain in 1991 to promote Spanish language teaching and fostering knowledge of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries throughout the world.

  1. Interesting that a warehouse would have so many windows. Such a simple building, and interesting that you got those two cars in the exact spots under the windows. Did you park them there, Jim?

    1. I actually did notice they were perfectly parked which made me think it was the perfect time to photograph this building.

  3. I don't think I know about the The Instituto Cervantes. But what a great idea for the Spanish Government to promote the cultures of all Spanish-speaking countries.

  8. Great timing for that picture, the cars make the image so much better as it enhances the symmetry of the building in a very good way. And what a warehouse this is, wow...
