Barrack Street, sculpture

This bronze statue stands in the middle of the Barrack Street mall. It was a gift from the Mayor of Athens to the Mayor of Sydney in 2000, for the Sydney Olympic Games. It is a copy of a 4th century bronze of the Greek Goddess Athena (sculptor unknown). It stands in front of the first head office of the Commonwealth Bank which was built in 1849 in the Classical Revival architectural style. The building was restored in 1982 and now houses the Athenian Greek Restaurant.

  12. Looks like this is the perfect setting for this statue. Also what better place for a Greek restaurant than a Greek Revival building?
