Darlington, Cadigal Green, The Old School

Cadigal Green is located along Maze Crescent on the University of Sydney campus, in the inner city suburb of Darlington. The curved benches in this park face The Old School, a heritage listed building that was originally the Darlington Public School. It is now used by the Department of Music and as a theatre workshop. The Cadigal are the group of Aboriginal Australians who originally inhabited this area.

  7. Love the curve design of the seats. And the building in the background looks almost like a small church rather than a school. Gorgeous setting.

  11. Jim, re art in World Square - from the top of the stairs I reckon is a better shot, if you do lots of judicious sidesteps. I could not climb the stairs. If you are down that way, could you give it a try pls?

  12. I used to walk through there on my way to work in the Faculty of Pharmacy. I watched in delight as all the landscaping took shape. Those chairs are a delight. Trust you to pick a non-semester time when there are NO student bodies scattered all over!

    1. Julie, it was last Sunday afternoon and there were only a few people walking around or sitting on the benches out of view.

  13. I'm always amazed at the number of suburbs I have not heard of and I thought I knew inner Sydney well. Great shot of a beautiful building. I can imagine those chairs would be occupied most of the time.

  15. Most modern unis have ugly modern buildings and no green parklands.
University of Sydney has beautifully preserved 19th century architecture and lots of open green space.
