This building is part of the former Lewisham Hospital, located along West Street in the inner west suburb of Lewisham. The Catholic hospital built in 1889 was first run by the Little Company of Mary, whose convent adjoined the grounds of St Thomas's Catholic Church. The hospital closed in 1988 when it was purchased by the St Vincent de Paul Society and later redeveloped the site into a low-care hostel, high-care nursing home and self-care village.

It looks very typical of Sydney buildings of a cartain era- solid red brick structures and Sydney sandstone. Do you know when it was built?
ReplyDeleteI haven't found any details on this specific building but the hospital buildings seemed to be built in the inter-war era either 1920s or 1930s.
DeleteWow. This building has quite a checkered medical history. Fascinating design.
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing building. I love the shape. So my post doesn't get lost in my bloggy morning I am including a link if you want to visit http://www.mariasspace.com/2015/11/looking-for-some-new-christmas.html
