Rose Bay, war memorial

The Rose Bay war memorial is located in Lyne Park in the eastern suburb of Rose Bay. The war memorial was dedicated on 21st April 1935 but commemorates World War 1, World War 2, the Korean War and Vietnam War. In front of the memorial is a gate which came from an old mansion called Colebrook, which was located in the nearby suburb of Double Bay.

  1. It reminds me of one in a city near where I grew up.

    1. The style of these World War 1&2 memorials from this era must be common around the world.

  2. This is a nice memorial. I like that it has colour - most of the ones I've seen are stone, or granite.

  3. What a beautiful and peaceful setting.

Like many war memorials after WW1, this one was not dedicated until 1935! Thus it had the advantage of being designed and built in the Deco era. But the disadvantage was that it took ages to commemorate the 1914-8 war. The lads who died in 1914 would have been a distant memory to their widows by 1935 and to the babies they had left behind.

  4. Such a lovely design for a memorial. I like the curve of the low wall.

  6. That is a nice memorial - not flashy or overwrought, it sits quietly in the shade as we quietly ponder those who were lost in service for their country...
