St Joseph's Catholic Church is located along Canterbury Road, in the south western suburb of Belmore. It was built in 1919 in the interwar architectural style.
Excellent time for a new church, just as the lads were coming home after the war. Was that green colour from the original 1919 front of the Church? If not, was green chosen for any symbolic reason?
Those are green tiles so I would say they are part of the original church. I can't find any information about this one because surprisingly it isn't even heritage listed.
Update - Foundation stone for a new church was laid by Cardinal Gilroy when he blessed and opened a new presbytery on 4Apr 1954 (to cost £50,000 - £60,000). The church was officially blessed and opened 6th October 1957 Fr Maurice McCarthy was the Parish Priest.
