Rozelle, White Bay Power Station

This view of the White Bay Power Station is from Victoria Road, in the inner city suburb of Rozelle. Sitting on the shore of White Bay, this heritage listed former coal-fired power station was commissioned in 1917 and decommissioned in 1983. It is currently owned by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority which is undertaking necessary preservation work to reduce further degradation and ensure the potential for future uses. The side view can be seen here.

  1. There is potential there for some good use to come out of the building.

  2. We have an old power generating building here that is beautiful like that but has been decommissioned as well and as yet no use has been found for it other than a few temporary events. They are wonderful big buildings worth saving for sure!

  5. There's something about abandoned power stations that crosses geographical lines...the architecture manages to be similar while distinctly different.

    1. Susie, there were plans for Google to be the main tenant of a multi billion redevelopment as a technology and innovation hub but unfortunately they dropped out this week, so it's back to the drawing board.
