The Rocks, Gloucester Street, mural

This mural has been painted on the wall of the Cahill Expressway, where it crosses Gloucester Street, at The Rocks. A description has been painted on the mural: Gloucester Street looking towards the city from this point, 1901. Gloucester Street had been created in 1810. It formalised a track that skirted around houses built on the rocky ridge between here and Cumberland Street. The Cahill Expressway cut Gloucester Street in half in 1956-57.

  2. That is so good it appears you could just keep walking and step back in time.

  3. I love this mural - interesting to see how the place would have looked in the past.

  6. If it is a bit dark you are glad that there are poles in the street otherwise you could turn into the wall. Great one.

  8. Fine looking mural, especially in b&w as it gives it a sense of an earlier time. Looks almost like one could walk right into it.

  9. Beautiful work. Lovely style.
And it looks like that road in foreground goes right into the picture, taking the viewer into the past.

    Great find, Jim. :)
