This telephone exchange is located along Redfern Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. This heritage listed building was built in 1913 in the Victorian Italianate architectural style. There had previously been a telephone exchange room operating in the adjacent Redfern post office since 1904. A new six-storey exchange building was erected adjacent to the Post Office facing George Street in 1957 which can be seen in the background. When a third exchange building was built beside it in 1974, this telephone exchange was decommissioned.
