Museum of Contemporary Art, Lunar Lanterns, Dragon

Lunar Lanterns were installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Dog. The park in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art featured this giant lantern of a Dragon created by Guan Wei. He depicts a little boy retrieving a jewel from the Dragon’s mouth, enabling it to expel water and bring rain to the land. The zodiac symbol of the Dragon can be characterised as lucky, flexible and eccentric who is generous and powerful.

Sydney Opera House, Lunar Lanterns, Dog

Lunar Lanterns were installed around Circular Quay to celebrate the Chinese New Year Festival. In the Chinese zodiac, every year is symbolised by an animal and this year is the Year of the Dog. The forecourt of the Sydney Opera House featured this giant lantern of a Dog created by Song Ling. The zodiac symbol of the Dog is characterised as loyal and honest, amiable and kind, although not always good at communicating.

The Galeries, mural

This mural is located on level 1 of "The Galeries" shopping centre, near the Pitt Street entrance. It was created in 2017 by Steven Nuttall, also known as The Ox King.

Drummoyne, St Bede's Anglican Church

St Bede's Anglican Church is located along College Street, in the inner west suburb of Drummoyne. This heritage listed church was designed by Emil Soderstein and built in 1931 in the Interwar Romanesque architectural style.

Australian National Maritime Museum, Waterfront Pavilion

The Waterfront Pavilion of the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour. It showcases the danger and drama of military life at sea, through a high-tech exhibition and also has function areas looking out on the harbour. It was opened in 2015 to mark the centenary of World War I and commemorate over 100 years of service by the Royal Australian Navy. The MB172 is an elegant timber motor boat which once ferried naval officers but now transports museum staff and guests on Sydney Harbour. It was built by the Royal Australian Navy at Garden Island dockyard and worked mostly on on Port Phillip and later Jervis Bay.

Marrickville, town hall and war memorial

Marrickville Town Hall is located on the corner of Marrickville Road and Petersham Road, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. This heritage listed building was designed by Lindsay Thompson and completed in 1922 in the Federation Free Classical architectural style. The Marrickville War Memorial was erected in 1919 to honour the men of Marrickville who gave their lives in World War 1. It features a bronze sculpture of a winged angel with wreath and sword held high, known as Winged Victory, on a large granite pillar set on a rectangular granite base.

Rozelle, shops

These shops are located on the corner of Darling Street and Hancock Lane, in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. They are not heritage listed but they probably should be.

Pyrmont Bay, ferry wharf

The Pyrmont Bay ferry wharf is located on the western side of Darling Harbour, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. It was built in 2015 and is serviced by Sydney Ferries with services operating to Barangaroo and Circular Quay. The Endeavour replica is moored outside the at the Australian National Maritime Museum, with the Sydney skyline as a backdrop.

Queen Victoria Building, Lunar New Year, Dog

This interactive digital installation has been installed in the central atrium of the Queen Victoria Building (QVB) in celebration of Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dog. The series of dog portraits are wearing the latest fashion and accessories from the QVB's retailers. When shoppers play with a giant tennis ball, the dogs featured in the gallery of digital screens have their gaze locked on it.

Carrington Street, mural

This mural is on a construction hoarding around a development work site along Carrington Street. The design previously appeared around a building work site office on the southern forecourt of the Sydney Opera House at Circular Quay. "Millennial Wallscape" was created by Reg Mombassa and features gum tree trunks, suburban architecture, technological infrastructure, genetically modified flora and fauna and Sydney icons: the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Darlinghurst, The Liberal Catholic Church of St Alban

The Liberal Catholic Church of St Alban is located along Stanley Street in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The original St Alban's Cathedral was located in Redfern. This church was built in the late 1960s after the original cathedral was sold and demolished.

Pyrmont Bay, ferry

This ferry at Pyrmont Bay ferry wharf, beside the Australian National Maritime Museum, is a new Emerald class ferry operated by Sydney Ferries which entered service on Sydney Harbour in 2017. It was controversially named "Ferry McFerryface" after a public vote supposedly resulted in "Boaty McBoatface" winning, but apparently changed by the Transport Minister since the name had already been used overseas. However, the Maritime Union of Australia refused to crew the vessel in protest at the name and subsequently it was controversially revealed that the name had not in fact been the competition winner, but was selected by the minister himself. So now it will be renamed "May Gibbs", after the popular Australian children's author.

Marrickville, fire station

Marrickville Fire Station is located along Marrickville Road, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. This heritage listed building was built in 1914 in the Federation Free Classical architectural style.

Darling Harbour, Sydney Convention Centre

The Sydney Convention Centre and the Sofitel Hotel are two relatively new buildings on the skyline at Darling Harbour. The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) an exhibition, convention and entertainment centre which opened in 2016. The Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour Hotel, behind Harbourside shopping centre, opened in 2017.

Darling Harbour, Windjammer Sailors

"Windjammer Sailors" is a bronze sculpture located outside the Wharf 7 Maritime Heritage Centre of the Australian National Maritime Museum at Pyrmont looking out on Darling Harbour. The work is based on a concept by Dennis Adams which was modelled by sculptor Brett Garling and unveiled in 2016. It pays homage to sailors in the 19th and early 20th centuries who often risked their lives in perilous weather to sail wind ships (windjammers) carrying critical cargoes in and out of Australian ports to foreign lands. The Commonwealth Lightship 4 Carpentaria is the floating unmanned lighthouse moored at the wharf and the International Towers at Barangaroo can be seen in the distance.

Centennial Park, Superintendent’s Residence

The Superintendent’s Residence is located just inside the Paddington Gates entrance of Centennial Park along Oxford Street, in the eastern suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed building was was completed in 1888. Today, it can be hired as accommodation or for events.

St Peters, street art

This street art is on a the side of a house along May Lane on the corner of May Street, in the inner city suburb of St Peters.

Rozelle, St Thomas' Anglican Church

St Thomas' Anglican Church is located along Darling Street, in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. This heritage listed church was built in 1874 in the Victorian Gothic architectural style. The church hall is now home to St Thomas Childcare Centre, which is run by the Anglican Church.

Sydney Wharf, monument

This monument is located along Wharf 7 of Sydney Wharf, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. This stainless steel sculpture tells the history of the wharves, looking across Darling Harbour towards the Sydney skyline. The paddlewheeler operated by Sydney Showboats has just departed King Street Wharf and is heading for a cruise on Sydney Harbour.

Barangaroo Reserve, foreshore

The reconstructed foreshore along Barangaroo Reserve, in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo. Looking across Darling Harbour towards the Australian National Maritime Museum, Jones Bay Wharf and Star City Casino at Pyrmont.

Balmain, shop

This commercial and residential building is located along Darling Street, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. "Blokes" is a shop that stocks clothing, shoes, accessories, gadgets and gifts for men. Bloke is a slang term for a man common in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

This commercial and residential building, with the Victorian architectural style dome, is located on the corner of Edgecliff Road and Grosvenor Street in the eastern suburb of Woollahra.

Sans Souci Literary Institute

The Sans Souci Literary Institute is located along Ramsgate Road in the southern suburb of Sans Souci. It was built in 1920 in the Federation architectural style as a community building with a library, meeting room, kitchen, office and two small halls. It was a place where where billiards, housie or bingo was played and dances were held. The hall is still used as a community centre.

Newtown, street art

This is part of a mural on the side of a shop on the corner of King Street and Rochford Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. The artwork was created by PequeVRS and Sykoh. This wall has featured a number of artworks by these artists over the years which can be seen here, here and here.

Balmain, St Andrew's Congregational Church

St Andrew's Congregational Church is located on the corner of Darling Street and Curtis Road, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. This heritage listed church was built in 1855 in the Victorian Free Gothic architectural style.

Barangaroo, skyscrapers

The three skyscrapers which make up International Towers and Westpac Place, in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo. They rise above apartments along Wulugul Way, behind Barangaroo Wharves. The late afternoon sun is reflected across Darling Harbour, viewed from Pyrmont.

An overcast day at the beach in the southern suburb of Brighton-Le-Sands, looking out across to the heads of Botany Bay.

Porter House, sign (Theme Day: Tired)

This ghost sign is on the side of Porter House, a commercial building located along Castlereagh Street. This heritage listed building was designed by J F Hilly and built in 1876 in the Victorian Free Classical Style. It was originally used by Dixson & Sons tobacco factory and warehouse. The sign, which is looking a bit tired these days, advertises a "Johnson & Sons Ltd, Leather and Grindery Merchants" who took over the building in 1891.
