Rookwood, Eternal Rest Complex (Theme Day: Spirit)

The Eternal Rest Complex is a contemporary chapel located on the corner of Barnet Avenue and Haslem Drive, in Rookwood Cemetery in the western suburb of Rookwood. "Victory" is the sculpture of Jesus Christ created by Linda Karfeld and dedicated in 2004.

  1. It's a very modern design. I imagine that would also be the case inside.

  5. I like the contrast of the foliage to the geometrical shapes of the building.

  6. Quite a contrast to the chapel in the cemetery in Long Beach, California, where several generations of my family members are buried. This one is sleek in comparison.

  11. It's an interesting architectural style for a church Jim, it's only the sculpture that gives it away. Good choice choice for the theme.

  13. The chapel doesn't look too large, which I prefer in a place of worship that is labelled a "chapel." For some reason a small enclosure for me is more intimate. Lifts my spirit!!
