Surry Hills, St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church

St Sophia Greek Orthodox Church is located along Bourke Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This heritage listed church was originally built as a Congregational Church known as St Sophia and Her Three Daughters. It was designed by William Boles and built in 1880 in the Victorian Gothic architectural style.

  1. Quite distinctive. It looks older than it would have to be.

    1. It does look like something you'd see whitewashed on a Greek island.

  4. Very nice church missing the blue dome for a Greek Church

  5. Hello Jim, Love this bright white church and the beautiful stained glass rosette window! The narrow pointed ones look like the gothic style. I wonder if there was originally a tower one on the middle piece (or did they run out of funds?). In any case, a beautiful Greek-Orthodox find for All Seasons - thank you much! Have a great week, Jesh
