St Philip's Anglican Church

St Philip's Anglican Church is bounded by York Street, Jamison Street and Clarence Street. This view is of the Clarence Street entrance with the Suncorp Place building in the background. This heritage listed church was designed by Edmund Blacket and built in 1858 in the Victorian Academic Gothic architectural style. It is the third church to be located on Church Hill on the site of the first church constructed in Australia in 1793 and is named in honour of the first Governor, Arthur Phillip.

  2. It looks out of place with the modern city buildings, but maybe that is a good thing. :)

  4. Indeed a great contrast but not by trying to reach the sky.

  5. ...lovely, but I wish that the modern tower was there!

  6. I agree, that concrete tower detracts from the church's majesty.

  7. That's quite a contrast! But it's kind of sad to see that fine church dwarfed like that.

    1. I imagine it would have dominated the skyline originally.
