The El Alamein Memorial Fountain is a heritage-listed fountain and war memorial located at Fitzroy Gardens, along Macleay Street in the inner city locality of Kings Cross. It was designed by Australian architect Robert Woodward and installed in 1961. It was commissioned as a memorial to soldiers who died in the Battle of El Alamein, Egypt in 1942 during World War II.

ReplyDeleteA small part of me is in that fountain. It was Christmas 1965 and I was going overseas by myself for the first time. Perhaps it was anxiety, perhaps combined with my first alcohol.. but I thought the spraying water would be cooling.
