Circular Quay, tram

This preserved Sydney C-Class Tram, built in 1898, was on display in Alfred Street at Circular Quay last week. It was brought into the city from the Sydney Tramway Museum at Loftus, to celebrate the opening of the new Light Rail service from Circular Quay to Randwick via George Street.

  2. I heard about your new light rail system. I thought the vehicles might look a little more modern.

    1. This is not one of them. ;) The new ones are very slick and modern.

  3. Lots of transport didn't start looking sleek, low and fast until the Deco era (1925-45). This 1898 tram was much more about craftsmanship than sleekness.

  4. Oh, beautiful. A nice guy helped me get to Circular Quay back in 1995 and advised me to take a beautiful side road to the city, hence I sadly didn´t see this.
A "tad" sad I merely saw the deep garage in Kings Cross for two weeks selling our car!
"The Phantom of The Opera" was on when we arrived. Hubby said, we´ll go when we come back.... too late, too. I´ve never seen the Opera House from the inside, or heard it.

    1. Iris, you must come back to Sydney to see the rest.

  5. What fun it would be to rumble along the street in that tram! Happy holidays, Jim!
