Hurstville, Memorial Square

Memorial Square is located along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. The Hurstville War Memorial which stands in the centre of the square was erected in 1922 to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action during World War One.

  1. We have a lot of those around the Stanmore/Petersham area. The gates to Petersham park are monuments as well.

  2. A friend of ours who was a veteran died this week in the hospital, unable to have those who loved him with him as he passed from this life. This #Y)#@)$ coronavirus has had some cruel consequences. I think of Joel, of his sacrifice, and of his lonely death, and I feel sad.
I hope you are well, and staying safe.

  3. I love how the memorials there (and here in NZ) are elegant in their simplicity and well cared for. Great capture.

I'm so happy that you joined us over at at 'My Corner of the World' this week!

  4. Since the young men who died in war could not be brought back to Australia, the widows and orphans needed some place to grieve and memorialise their loved ones. The Hurstville War Memorial, and the others, were very important.
