This mural featuring reeds is on the side of a lift at the former Kogarah Civic Centre, located along Belgrave Street in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The suburb name Kogarah is derived from an indigenous word meaning “Place of Reeds”. The administration building was for the former City of Kogarah local government area which had reeds in its logo. The local council merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council. The Customer Service Centre which was at this entrance, now houses a gym and retail space.

Gads! Nature's reeds replaced by man-made?
ReplyDeleteNot many places you'd see reeds these days in this suburb.
DeleteI like the mural.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have real reeds growing on our property, I like these...a lot!...jp
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know the history behind this mural, Jim. I think it's lovely and was appropriate for the former building occupants, too.
ReplyDeleteNice and important mural.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a pity they put the sign in that position on the mural as it takes your eye away from the mural.
ReplyDeleteI like the mural and muted colours, but have to agree with Fun60, that it is a pity that sign was placed over the mural.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in Monday Murals
Nice mural, too bad there's a sign in the way.
ReplyDeleteNice mural, very suitable.
