This is one of three attached shops with residences above, along Devonshire Street in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. The building is home to a Japanese Jazz restaurant.

At my school, many families came to Australia in the 1948-56 era and lived in homes over their shops. Mind you, the Surrey Hills building looks much more attractive than what I remember.
