Alexandria, mural

This mural appears on the facade of a picture framing shop on the corner of Mitchell Road and Buckland Street, in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. This humorous artwork features an Australian white ibis dressed as a hip hop artist complete with a crown, sunglasses, sneakers and a gold dollar chain. The ibis has come to be regarded as a problem species in urban areas as a result of their scavenging activities, scattering rubbish from tips and bins in the process. The species has acquired a variety of colloquial names such as "bin chicken",
 "bin chook" and "tip turkey".

  1. What a fun mural. But not so fun if the ibis' are overrunning the city and tipping out bins messing the area. We have problem monkeys in the Drakensberg. They are not endemic to the area. Two were brought in as pets in the 60's; and have multiplied over the years. No garbage bin, open window or door is safe with the monkeys.

  2. You could crop the photo a bit, go in, and ask them to frame it for you.

  3. I like how it got the pixilated glasses, shoes, and chain. Really clever find, Jim.

  4. And here he is the "king ibis" or the "superstar ibis". I never used to see Ibis in Perth, now I see them near my workplace and in the park across the road from our house, and when I put seeds out for the doves and magpies they fly in straight away and of course the smaller birds get frightened and fly away! Very cute mural, thanks for participating in Monday Murals Jim.
