The former National Bank of Australasia on the corner of Botany Road and Coward Street, in the eastern suburb of Mascot. It is now home to law firm Pryor Tzannes & Wallis Solicitors & Notaries.

It is indeed an impressive building. We live nearby and walk past it regularly.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are plans to amend the zoning in the area to allow high-density developments and increase permissible height from 14m to 28m. With this, they propose to redevelop the public housing site directly opposite the old bank and replace with approx 150 units of varying heights (3, 4, 6 and 8 storeys). The 8 storeys will be on the Botany Rd side directly opposite the old bank and on Coward St directly opposite Memorial Park.
If approved it will set a precedence for many other similar developments in the area. We already have this at Mascot Station. We don't need more.
The development also includes a potential closure of the Ambulance Station meaning longer ambulance response times for residents of Mascot and nearby areas who will need to rely on other stations such as Randwick, Marrickville and Maroubra.
