The McKell Building is bounded by George Street, Rawson Place, Pitt Street and Barlow Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. This 23-level tower was built as a state government office building in 1979 in the Brutalist style. It was named after Sir William John McKell, GCMG, QC who was the 12th Governor-General of Australia from 1947 to 1953 and had previously been Premier of New South Wales from 1941 to 1947.
We have similar style buildings to this in Auckland, they are a part of my childhood from the 1970s. Good to see this one is still there.

ReplyDeleteWe looked to the South from our room at the Hilton in 2013 but don't remember it, we should have as it seems to be the tallest around, 23 stories. Nice picture. Google AI changed my 2013 visit to a 2023 visit the first go around, let's see if 2013 holds this time.

Not a distinctive enough design to be memorable and it's quite a distance away.
